It's definitely one of those events with "real talent". So I thought I'd give you a bit of notice for the next one which is on the 20th July with rapper Sincere headlining.
I'm going to try and make it if I'm in town. It's only £4 and in a great location in Camden! One not to miss.

GREAT MORNING!

Hey yall,

It's such a beautiful day here in London, so I'm going to try and write this one quickly so I go out and enjoy the sun while it lasts.

I hope you are good and pleased that I have been blogging quite a bit lately. Once I get into it I actually enjoy it. I think it's the pic and vid uploading that is the most tedious part but what's a blog without pics? BORING!

Anyhoo, so last night I had an amazing evening. I went down to The Monarch in Camden and stepped into Milly's World to support some stupendously talented UK rising stars.

My main reason for going was to see my sister Obenewa and my cousin Angel but I was also very pleasantly entertained by the beautiful vocals of Miss Cleosol.

Cleosol opened up the show with her fantabulous band and gave it all...she's got a great stage presence and is easy on the eye too.

Next up was my sis...you know I'm slightly biased...BUT she's BAAAAAAAAD and A WICKED (excuse the excitement)...She's just excellent.

My family and West London properly represented last night! Next up was my cousin Angel...who I'm sure is no Angel lol, but has the voice and face of one nevertheless!
He blew us all away with his acoustic set. I wish I recorded more but it's hard to record and enjoy the set at the same time. So next time you'll have to come and see him for yourself!

As an artist, sometimes going to shows leaves you frustrated because some Artists have no heart....meaning I just don't feel anything from them when they perform. Like they're doing it for the wrong reasons or it is simply not their calling.
Last night I left the venue buzzing that I had witnessed some proper talent which inspires me also to step my game up.
I'm really proud of my cuz and sis cos I know how hard they work and how much music is their life. They WILL succeed!

Anyway mi dears...I bid you good day as I walk off into the sunshine. I'm off to buy school shoes for my boy as he insists on using them as football boots. Oh the joys of Motherhood!

Hey!

Can you believe I'm posting again?
I made a conscious effort to take a few pics and a little bit of footage this week. I can't promise I'll keep it up...but I'll try.

So...How are you? How's life been treating you? I'm very well, thanks for asking :)

What can I tell ya?
Oh...so you know I said I wasn't into doing videos because I'm not really into that video vixen malarkey....ummm...well...I only went and bloody did another one! lol
Okay...but here's my reason (excuse). It was for a very good friend of mine, poet,G.R.E.E.D.S'. Starring in it apart from myself are comedians Kat, Simply Andy and A Dot! They are hilarious. It should be out, I think this week, but I'll post it up for you, here, on Facebook and my twitter so that you can see it as soon as it's finito!

So filming for this video took up all of Friday and half of Saturday...but Saturday night it was party time.
My friend Mark De Clive Lowe AKA Mashi was in town from LA and performed a totally improvised set at Uprock's Party!

I had a fab time. And after a late night snack on Edgware Road, I didn't reach home till 6am!
I'm telling you...I'm out of practice with these late nights and paid for it on Sunday...and Monday to be honest. Hanging up my party shoes for a bit. I'm not so resilient in my old age!

As soon as I get pics from the shoot and from my last show, I'll post them along with the Official G.R.E.E.D.S video for "There She Goes Again" starring yours truly :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Erm so ...yeah it sounds mad to be saying Happy New year considering it is now May but as usual I dropped off blogging.
I guess I have a love/hate relationship with writing. I love it because I like to communicate and express myself but I hate the fact it is so time consuming. But hey, it is what it is.

If I tried to cover my 5 months of absence on here I won't be able to go out and enjoy the beautiful day we're having today in London (which is rare so I'm going to try and grab some rays).

I'm actually not sure where to start....

Okay, a couple months ago I was asked to be in a music video. Now I'm not into all that video vixen malarkey. But as it was Don E who asked me I obliged. He's an artist I looked up to when I was younger and it's nice to see him still making moves in the industry and producing quality soul music.

Here is the video...and before you say it...YES I know, I have a big butt!

I'm sure you must remember me mentioning my friend and fellow artist, Incisive before. Well he released valentine's EP which is FREE to download. There are some great collaborations with myself, the beautiful Terri Walker and the amazing Shakka!!!!
Here's the track I recorded with him last year which you can have for absolutely FREEEEE!

He has also developed a brand new concept, "The Car Show" and he asked me to be a part of it. Basically he is getting different artists to perform a track in his car...in one take! Here's my attempt alongside my backing singers Kyri and Stephanie!

What else? Oh I won an Award!
Hehehehehehehehe, watch me just casually drop it into the conversation like it's nothing, I'm such an egg! lol
Well to some it may not be a big deal, but to me it's a great thing because it was an award that you guys, my supporters helped me achieve, by voting for me!
I won the Urban Vision Award sponsored by UVF/iMG/Universal Music Group for Best visual video of the year 2010 for my video "You Are The One" !

Last week I performed at the Legendary Charlie Wright's Jazz Club in Hoxton. Quite a few of you showed your faces despite it being a mid-week show, so I'm truly thankful, plus we had lots of fun! I had two photographers taking pics so hopefully in my next post I can show you some pictures.
I have a few more shows coming up which are TBC so I'll give you the heads up on those too.

Last shows for 2010!

I just thought I'd let you know about my next two gigs which happen to be my last shows for 2010. This year's come and gone so quickly and if I haven't seen you this year I would like to see you before the year's out. So come down to see me and join me for a drink or something!
I'm singing at "Soulcial" next Tuesday 14th Dec @ the Workshop which is in Shoreditch, Old street. I'll be on quite early I think @ 8pm so if you don't wanna miss me, come early.
The Last gig of the year will be @ Dingwalls in Camden on 27th Dec where I will be a Support Act for Marsha Ambrosius (formerly of Floetry). THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

Hey peeps,

How are you ? I know my UK friends are battling with the snow, frost, generally crappy weather BUT the show must go on.

Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely HATE the cold weather and I am a sun worshipper and practically go into hibernation in the winter. However my schedule this winter has not allowed for me to be the hermit that I am. So I invested in a fur coat and against my principles, some Ugg boots. Yes I know, I know, they're ugly...BUT, they keep your toes from catching frostbite. Trust me. It's not about appearance in these times here! lol
So...I WILL be looking like a lil bear if you catch me out and around town. I can't afford to catch a cold, neither do I have the desire to do so.

You'll be pleased to hear I've been a good girl. I've been taking my camera around town with me.
Last Week I was invited by one of my best buddies DJ Christoss to see The Legends of UK Soul in association with the ACLT in memory of Lynden David Hall. We were entertained by the likes of Don E, Mica Paris, Jonas, Joseph Junior, Sinclair and the Legendary Roachford.
Here's a clip of Roachford doing a song he wrote with the late great Lynden David Hall. "Where My Heaven Is". This song actually brought me to tears and meeting Lynden's wife who helped with the event humbled me.

Next up was Don E. Such a lovely guy and massive talent!!!

Mica Paris was last up and didn't disappoint.

At the end of the show all the artists had a lil jam session and even invited the backing singers to participate which was nice, especially since they were MY backing singers, Kyri and Stephanie. I was so proud :)

I must say, I really didn't want to leave the comfort of my home because the weather on Sunday was disgusting. But I so glad I made the effort to go and take in the show and give a lil to the ACLT charity. I know funds are tight right now...but you can give a £3 donation to the charity by texting 70300.

On a lighter note...I had the great pleasure of opening up for Glenn Lewis on Thursday.
Again the weather was absolutely pants and some of my friends (especially in South London) were snowed in which affected the turnout, BUT there was still a healthy crowd there to support.

Heya,

I hope you are all well.
Over the past few weeks I've had to deal with some things that I never in my lifetime thought I would, but I do believe we are not given anything we can't handle so I'm sure I will get through it. One thing it has taught me though is to really not sweat the small stuff. Things that would normally get me down or piss me off are now irrelevant.

I would like to send a special shout to my friends and band who have been very patient with me and have worked around me. Love you guys xx

Anyhoo....moving on here are some pictures from the shoot I did the other day. I'm really loving the black House of Rena dress and I didn't wanna take off the fur coat.

We had a lot of fun and I think we are due to shoot again soon!

Last week I performed @ I luv live and Soul 4 Real. Like a plum I forgot to get someone to film both of them. But everyone said they were good shows and my band enjoyed themselves.

My next gig is on the 2nd December 2010 @ The Vibe Bar, Brick Lane. I'm supporting Glenn Lewis and I'm excited as he's an artist I definitely look up to and he's got a character to match his lovely music.

I'll post you the link to the event in a couple days so you can get your tickets in advance because I'm sure it'll get sold out soon.

Good Evening all,

I'm very tired. It has been an emotional weekend but although I feel totally drained I can't sleep. So I thought I'd catch up with you.
In my last post I put up some stills from the video. I'm glad that I can now share with you the official video...

I'm much later posting it than the other blogs even though it is MY video! It's been up for 3 weeks now and has had over 5000 views. I wanna say a big thanks to everyone who's posted it on their twitter, facebook, blogs, magazines etc. I definitely would not have been able to spread the word without you lot! *snoggy kiss*

A week before my single release (4th October 2010), I did a half hour set for an event called "Wired", which is a monthly event @ the swanky Shoreditch House in London. I have footage on my laptop, but here's some I found on youtube which has saved my lazy butt from editing...however I will put something together so you can see a bit of the other songs!

Last Friday I put on my modelling hat and did a photoshoot with Stylist Michelle Candice and Deyahna of Michelle Candice Styling and Make Up Artist Ru Mel. I left the 50's desperate housewife themed shoot totally in their capable hands, which was pretty brave of me, but I'm excited about the outcome! michellecandicestyling.com

It's been a long wait for my Single and video. But it's been out of my control.
BUT as they say...the best things come to those who wait and I thank you all for being patient. I must admit I was starting to lose mine (patience)!

Sooo my lurrvvverlies...I've been so busy I don't even know what day it is right now. But busy is a great thing and I feel blessed that I have that privilege.

I did few more shows since the gig at mau mau's and I will try and get my hands on some footage to put up in the next post.

He's a friend of mine who happens to be a Fashion Designer. I have had the pleasure of wearing his clothes and working alongside him on shoots and will continue to support him as I believe his style is very unique and innovative.

Born Nigerian and growing up during Fela’s (Kuti) prime, he sneaked out on many a night to watch the Afro beat king play at his “Afrika Shrine” club influenced Emmy so much that from his teens together with his neighbourhood friends, he developed clothing styles unique to his time and brought to life by a local machinist friend. Emmy Collins’ work today is not a copy of Fela’s sartorial sense. Instead he has honed his creative skills while borrowing from some of his personal childhood creations and allowing memories of his music icon to inspire his original designs today. Hey you,

I'd been putting off writing a post because I wanted to give you some FREE music at the same time, but you know how it goes...things don't always go as planned. Hopefully I will get it by the end of today and I'll post it up later or tomorrow.

HOW ARE YOU? It's been a while since I've asked that. I'm always going on about ME ME ME but I'm so grateful for all the feedback i get on twitter and facebook, but you guys are still shy after all this time to write comments on here...what's so scary???
It's all good though, any feedback is appreciated, so thank you...I do listen and hopefully learn!

Anyhoo...the past week has been fantastic. Call me Miss Hot Foot! I have been out quite a lot since the last post. Restaurants, clubs, but most importantly some excellent gigs!

I would've loved to have given you pics and footage from Kaidi Tatham's gig @ Jazz re:freshed but silly me was too out of it to stick around! I had taken some medication and accidentally mixed it with a lovely glass of wine which had a crazy affect on me! I was so upset because I was looking forward to it ALL week.
Anyway, I just found some footage on youtube...(kaidi is the guy on keys by the way)I'm honoured to have had the pleasure of working with him :)

TY's ALBUM LAUNCH

I'm so happy to have actually witnessed this Album Launch. It really set the standard to a totally different level. Everyone I know that went said it was the best gig they'd been to in a while and I'd have to agree. Ty is a fantastic Lyricist and has the respect of so many other UK and overseas artists (including myself) which is why so many of us went to support him @ Jazz Cafe last Monday. I've said it a hundred times now and I know I've annoyed a couple people who missed out but I said it was gonna be one NOT to miss and I was right!

The support act on the night was none other than Colin Emmanuel aka Black Einstein.
I saw his set a few weeks ago at a gig on Brick Lane and was blown away , but this performance was even better!

GEORGE BENSON
I've been a George Benson fan from a young age. I like most of the music my parents played when I was a kid and as my mum was a fan and went to see George in nineteen seventy-something, I also became a fan!
A friend of mine is his Stage Manager and tours with him so I get the hook up every time he's in London :)
Last year I saw him at the Royal Albert Hall which was fantastic, but this year he played at the O2 Arena...not so brilliant. George was fabulous as usual but I don't like that venue AT ALL...the sound in there was very questionable.
Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the show as he has a fantastic band and his voice is faultless, not to mention his guitar playing skills! WOW
I only recorded a little bit because I wasn't sure how it would come out so here's a snippet of the night!

I know I winged a bit about the venue, but being a musician, my ears are kinda sensitive. But I had a lovely evening and enjoyed hanging out with George and the band after.

Candy Mag
Candy Mag is an urban men's magazine, it's a British equivalent to something like King or Show magazine.
I was asked to do an interview and photoshoot for this publication a few months ago and although my initial reaction was "are they going to expect me to get my bits out?" I was quickly put at ease, so I agreed to it. I had an excellent make up artist with me that day, Emily Rose, who used minimal make up but make me look lovely. Thanks luvvy xx
And I had the pleasure of working with Kosher who is a wizard with the camera. I saw the pictures before any airbrushing and I was very impressed.
After the shoot, I was interviewed by Semper. It seemed more like a conversation than an interview, so on the whole it was a great day.
Last week vol 4 of Candy Mag UK was launched and I went along to the party where I met some of the featured models, such as covergirls Sashia Summers and Demented who were absolutely lovely.
We were entertained by a girl from a group called Polefection. Basically they teach pole dancing for exercise and host parties such as Hen nights etc. I can tell you the performance went down a treat with the lads and I must say seeing the dancer's bodies made me consider doing classes for exercise purposes. Don't worry, I will not be changing professions on you.

Everybody Loves The Sunshine...

Well that may be a sweeping comment BUT most people love the sunshine apart from a couple of weirdos. The sun generally puts people in a good mood and encourages us to come out of our dwellings and socialise. I ♥ it a LOT!
It helps motivate me. Let's be honest, when it's all gloomy outside it takes an extra effort to get out of the bed. When it's sunny I practically jump out of the bed and hit the ground running! lol...okay slight exaggeration but you catch my drift!

From the end of last week the weather here in London started picking up which coincided with a session I had with Dornik Leigh of the Truth MoveMENT.
I normally go to his house and within a couple hours I will have written and recorded a song. We have a great chemistry. In the last few months I think I've done four or five tracks with him.

I videoed a bit of the session for you all to see how the song began and how it progressed. And because we're feeling sunshiny, Dornik and I are giving the track away for FREE.

The same evening I ended up @ Mau Mau. The Uprock boys had New York Artist Spec Boogie performing and my sis was singing a couple of his hooks so I thought I'd go and have a peek and also keep her company.

As usual we grabbed a bite to eat first. I actually ended up getting upset because my friend Incisive ordered food which tasted waaaaaaaay nicer than mine...it got quite emotional. But luckily the show had me bobbing my head and I forgot about it ....... till the show was over!

I'd never heard of Spec Boogie before, as did none of my friends, but he had us all singing along, dancing and vibing.

The good weather continued to the weekend. It actually got hotter. On Saturday I overdosed on football. My son had football training in the morning, then in the afternoon he had a Football Funday at his school. I spent 6 hours watching football. My idea of HELL. I actually do like football, but little kids who don't know how to play, who sulk when they lose (hmmm sounds a bit like men! lol) is NOT fun. BUT hey it's part and parcel of being a parent. Sometimes you've gotta do stuff you don't want to.

So Sunday, was about MEEEEEEEE! lol
Some friends and I wanted to go and make the most of the sun, so we decided to go to one of the biggest parks in the country, Hyde Park.
I packed a bag full of goodies and a cooler full of drinks (including a lovely bottle of wine), whacked on the sunscreen and headed off to the park.
One of my friends suggested roller skating! hahahahaha...as if! It was all about lazing in the sun for me :)

In the past week or so I've been overdosing on music...if that's actually possible. I came to the conclusion a long time ago that music is the remedy for me. If I'm sad I play music, if I'm happy I play music, if I wanna create a mood *wink wink* I play music. Music plays a big part in my life. I've written some of my best songs when I've been going through some major ish and needed to vent. I LOVE MUSIC !!

SO...continuing from my last post, I've been going out to more gigs! Supporting some fantastic musical friends of mine.
I went down to Vibe bar in Brick lane to see my friend, musician and producer Colin Emmanuel otherwise known as the Black Einstein.
He actually produced a track on my EP www.nadinecharles.bandcamp.com
Have a listen. It's called "Not My Man".

Anyhoo. He played a brilliant set and had Mystro, Baby Sol and Sharlene Hector on vocals. I was enjoying it so much that I nearly forgot to film. But I did get a little bit for you.

The next night my sis sang at an event called Soul-d-out held at Cottons in Angel. The food was great and my sis was even better!

Last Thursday, I met up with some of my friends for dinner on Portobello Road before having the pleasure of seeing my longtime friend J-soul from Gospel group Blessed Voices perform @ Inn on the Green. He's now doing his solo thing and I'm sure you'll agree that he's got a beautiful voice.

We had a fun night as usual. Too many jokes, great food, company and music. Perfecto!

Friday I had my first rehearsal with my new band "Soundforce". It was fun. We have a LOT of work to do, but we had a nice lil jam and just got familiar. Played my songs a bit and I introduced them to the sounds of Don Blackman. They loved him!!

Here's a lil clip of our rehearsal. Remember it's our FIRST so don't watch any bum notes on the band's part...on the other hand, I have no excuse, but hey! Apologies for the shaky filming. My son was the cameraman on the day. He's got a bit to learn!

GOING BACK TO MY ROOTS!

Nah I'm not going back to Africa, China, Japan, Scotland or wherever I'm from...I've gone au natural. I decided about 8 months ago not to chemically process my hair anymore because my hair was crying from all the madness I was doing to it. And in a bid not to use my hair straighteners to get my naturally curly hair straight,I decided to give it a break and braid it for a few weeks. It was a bit of a shock to the system but...I'm getting used to it!
Just thought I'd explain the change of appearance...

Anyway...onto more interesting things.
I've been busy, out and about and even remembered to take some pictures and footage. I think I deserve a massive pat on the back. Yay me :)

So...we've had lovely weather lately which has made me much more sociable.
I've been a bit of a social butterfly! lol

My friend Yomi, otherwise known as poet, G.R.E.E.D.S, invited me to the Grace Obika Album launch as he was her opening act. So I rounded up a few of my friends and headed down to Bar Music Hall in Shoreditch.
As usual he smashed it. I love it when an artist engages a crowd, and Greeds does it EVERY time. When he talks, people listen. A great skill.
I took some footage on the night so you could see the talent, but it's one of those " you have to be there to get it"...Hopefully my camera captured the spirit of things but I'm afraid the sound man was deaf and the lighting person was blind, so the levels are not too great!

The pics I took on the night were waaaay below average! I only had one drink so I wasn't even drunk so I don't know what my excuse was! I think I was just having too much fun! lol

That day I went for a casting for a modelling job, where they tested different looks on me to see if I was suitable. So luckily I didn't have to do my make up and I also got the job. I did the shoot the following week, which consisted of a couple looks, one being a bride, so I daydreamt as I posed in a stunning wedding dress!...one day...*sighs*

Another friend of mine, rapper, Incisive invited me to his show in Shoreditch last Monday. I've watched his blogs, performances, even worked with him, but this was my first time seeing him live.
The venue was a little bit strange and there were some strange acts there...some were actually strange in a good way.
Incisive was on last, which was a good move on the part of the organisers because they really did save the best for last.
Again, I was a bit p'd off with the sound and lighting person. Different venue, same bloody problem. Luckily Incisive and his fab band are professional and they gave a great performance.
I will definitely go and support him again not just because he is a friend and a fellow West Londoner; his tracks and production are really good too. He's not just a run off the mill rapper, he's got that X factor. Follow him on twitter for more info and watch the clip below. Look out for a special appearance from bad bwoy singer Shakka too!

I've had a couple birthday celebrations too. It was my cousin's 21st *WINK WINK* so I went to go and show my face at the club. I'm not really a clubber but it was a special occasion so I made the effort. But greedy lil me was taken to dinner before hand so I had that itis going on...I was in bed by 1am! I'm a lightweight these days.

The next day it was birthday celebrations number two! For my sister obenewa. She booked a room @ one of our favourite restaurants, Busaba and made us all dress up supposedly "geek chic" ...but we mainly just looked geeky!

Hello!!
I have a confession to make....I've been naughty. I've done loads of things and taken my camera with me everywhere but taken very little footage and pictures. It's hard to enjoy yourself when your stuck behind the lense of a camera.
I apologise for being so selfish. I realise the error of my ways!
So from today I'm making a conscious decision to take more pics etc even if it's just a couple.

This dude can SANG! I love his voice and his slightly gospel/oldskool feel although he's very current. He's also a very humble person. I've come across so many people who have fallen into the "internet celebrity" thing and believe their own hype. Not our Shean. Look out for him. He's on facebook and twitter as "Face Williams", add him and follow him.

Obenewa @ Shoreditch house

Yes I'm slightly biased as most of you know this chick is my sister, BUT she was fantastical last week @ Shoreditch house. I invited quite a few of my friends down to see her and although some of them weren't very familiar with her material, by the end of the night she had them singing along and downloading her mixtape!

Cat on a hot tin roof

I've been wanting to see this play since it came out last year. For those of you who don't know, it stars Sanaa Lathan (hot chick from Love and Basketball) Phylicia Rashad (Fame), James Earl jones (Mufasa, Lion King). So...I dropped hints, left messages, status updates and then one day, I think on the day the show was closing, I got tickets. I was beaming. It was a long play but I really enjoyed it and respect the actors for learning all those lines cos I find it difficult learning a couple songs!

Rehearsals
I've started rehearsing again. I've put off live performances for a while because I've had so many other things to take care of, but I have started rehearsing with various musicians and am really enjoying it! So make sure you show your support and come see me when I announce dates. :)

I went down to the Proud Galleries in Camden to see my friend Jason do his thang. If you haven't seen him perform yet, you should really catch one of his gigs. He's got a really unique style which I find it hard to describe. It's kinda electro, retro, soulful, pop....I'm doing a crap job. Best thing is to listen yourself.
Trust me, he'll have you singing "Hollywood"!

For all of you that have asked me about "the video", it's nearly done. As soon as it's finto I'll post it up for you all to see.

I'm going to dash now because I have to get my son from youth club...nearly lost track of the time. It's not easy multi-tasking sometimes. But it makes us stonger and builds our characters.

On a slightly different note, apart from enjoying fabulous gigs in the past few weeks, I've had some reflective times. Certain events occurred that forced me to question certain relationships and appreciate others. Life is not all strawberries and cream and fields of daffodils, and it seems that at those particular times we are tested and true characters surface.

I don't really want to go into details and single any one situation or person because like I said, these situations make us stronger and I don't want to attack anyone. But I am grateful for my true friends who are always there without fail when the lights aren't flashing and the champagne isn't flowing. You know who you are.

I guess I just wanna share things with you. I just got the above pictures yesterday from one of the photographers who snapped away @ day one of the video shoot.

I also wanted to share some footage with you of my Candy Mag shoot that I did this weekend.
I hadn't done a shoot since August/September last year so I was a bit rusty. But I had a great time with photographer Kosher and MUA Emily Rose.

TIME FLIES !!!

WOW dudes/dudettes, mums and dads!,
I really can't believe so much time has passed since I hollered at you. But I'm back!! I actually didn't go anywhere but I was so pre-occupied I didn't have the time to blog...

FINALLY I have finished shooting my video. And boy was that some hard work. Three days of blood, sweat...and maybe a few tears may have escaped...lol. But we had crazy fun and I can't wait til it's all edited so I can show you what I've been working on for the last couple months. I wasn't being unsociable and selfish for no reason! lol
I can't reveal too much as yet but I just wanna say a quick thanks to everyone who contributed to the shoot! Dirty Media London (who directed and produced the vid), Kele Le Roc, Jason Jermaine, J Stories, Selam Yohans who provided my shoes, Jewel Clothing who designed a beautiful dress just for me, the MUAs and Stylists. I will go into more detail in a later post and give you all their details so you can give em a shout!

Whoop whoop, I got another Tattoo! Yep another one!...but it's only a lickle one and it means a LOT to me....I hope you like it...if not, I don't care cos I do :) xx

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I know we're well into 2010 now but better late than never right?
Seriously though, Happy New Year :)
I was sick at the end of 2009 so I kinda fell off the radar a lil bit BUT I'm back with a vengence!

I've got a fully functional team working on my video plans. It's taking longer than I intially hoped, but we're getting there.
At the moment we're casting for the the leading man and I can't complain. I've had loads of applicants and I've enjoyed going through the pics! lol
We should be making a decision in the next few days, so if you've sent me your pics and CV's, hopefully you will be getting a call from me soon!

After recovering from my two weeks of ill health, I went straight back into the studio and have been recording for my 2010 projects and I'm very happy with what we've produced so far. So if you like my EP, you'll LOVE the new stuff!

As I've been so busy writing and recording, I've been a hermit but this weekend I had the perfect opportnity to come out of hiding.
My sister was nominated in the category of Best Newcomer at the Official Mixtape Awards so we decided to take a trip to Portsmouth to where it was being held!
It was a good excuse to doll ourselves up and thanks to Jewel Clothing(www.jewelclothing.co.uk) I felt fabulous in my gorgeous dress :)

There were mixed reviews on the actual event and a lot of people have asked me my opinion...
Now, if I thought it was total rubbish, I wouldn't even mention it, BUT as I actually believe it has a lot of potential and is a great concept.
I will say though that I do think it lacked organisation which would have made it more enjoyable.
BUT it is the first Official Mixtape Awards and we all have to start somewhere. I'm looking forward to next year's one because they should have sorted out the teething problems by then...fingers crossed!

Wha Gwaan mi lickle sugar dumplings?

I've hardly had time to sleep lately and I'm not gonna bore you with all the ins and outs of my week but it has been very hectic to say the least! I'll just give you my highlights otherwise I'll be here all day and you'll probably switch off!

I was invited to the nomination party for the very first Official Mixtape Awards hosted by Ras Kwame and the lovely Kele Le Roc.
My sis Obenewa was nominated in the best newcomer category, so you can imagine I was pleased as punch. Please vote for her @ www.officialmixtapeawards.co.uk she's amazing! www.myspace.com/obenewa1

Saturday, I went out with my twinny, Sherona, we share the same bday, but unfortunately she was sick on the day of our party so I had to party with out her :( I didn't stay out too late because I had early morning footie the next day (which was actually cancelled because of the rain) but we had a nice time. It was much calmer than my party, but nevertheless I good night out!

I had a great night out on Sunday @ Room 4 Movement, which was held at the Book club in Shoreditch with my Uprock Crew and Dego from 4hero spinning.
Me and ru baby AKA Rumel had fun catching up and as it was her bday she had a few cocktails which were ridiculously tasty and STRONG!
I tasted one called "Brown Sugar" and it was divine :) Although I remained VERY sober as I was designated driver...boooo!

Yesterday I popped into Lightning fm to see Dj Christoss as I was in South London for a meeting, so I killed two birds with one stone. We had a right old laugh! Thanks for all of you who called in and texted. You asked some really good questions and gave me some great feedback. I'll definitely be passing my music to the Lightning fm crew to play new material so stay tuned! www.lightningfm.co.uk!

As you all know, or should know by now, my Ep is out! www.nadinecharles.bandcamp.com, which is all very exciting. But what is really exciting for me right now is that I'm going to be doing a video for one of my tracks.
It's my first video so it's quite daunting, but exciting @ the same time. And yeah I realise I've used the word exciting a lot but I'm EXCITED!!

Winding down...

Hey people,

Howdy???

I'm still buzzing off the fabulous birthday I had last week...and to be honest with you, I'm still slyly celebrating, on a more low key level.
I went for dinner @ Rocket in Mayfair last night with a friend who wasn't able to make my party. It's a beautiful restaurant BUT the food wasn't all that. Good thing my company made up for what the meal lacked. We had a good old chin wag and before we knew it the staff were clearing up, turning on all the lights etc, hinting for us to shove off!
We finally got the message and I went home, smiling although my belly was still longing for a decent meal!

Food does feature a lot in my life. One of my "loves". If you follow me on twitter you'll know how much I eat and think about food. A slight obsession I think. I even dream about it..."issues" I hear you scream. Oh well, I could be an alcoholic, sexaholic or shopaholic...so being a foodie is not that bad surely!

I just wanted to let you know about another article that was written on my EP. I met some guys @ the summit in ATL from "Grown Folks Music". They passed on my EP to a colleague who listened to and reviewed my music.

This is just a quickie,

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the hundreds of messages I got on my birthday! I was overwhelmed.
I'm thankful that so many of you took those two minutes out of your busy schedules to say Happy Birthday to ME!! I really appreciate it.
So there was no way I was gonna have a crappy birthday!!!
My friend Le-Starr organised a private party for me @ Molton House in Mayfair and I had sooooo much fun.....as you can probably gather from the pictures.

Although it was a Monday and most of my friends/family had to get up the next day for work, so many of them came to celebrate my Earthday with me.
I had people around me who I love to death, a bling bling dress that made me feel like a princess and TWO birthday cakes :) It was a supercalifragulisticexpialidocious night!

Gotta catch up on some lost sleep now.

Where oh where does one start ??? ...

I know you've heard it a million times but again I must say SORRY.

The problem is, that I take so many photos, videos etc then don't have the time to organise and edit them!

I don't know if you think it's a good enough reason/excuse, but it's the truth! Anyhoo, apology out of the way...

I hope you're all well. Where do I start?

Okay... A few months ago I was approached by a young lady called Sophia Savizon, with her idea to organise a fashion show to showcase fashion designers and at the same time raise money for charity. I thought it was an excellent idea and didn't hesitate to be involved. This event was especially important to me because the causes she chose were Sickle Cell and Cancer, which have both affected my life.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a chatterbox in private, but I'm not much of a public speaker, so when I was asked to do a speech on Sickle Cell disease I immediately said no! However, I was persuaded by Sophia and the nurse who treats my son for his condition. They convinced me it was good idea for me to talk about the subject as it affects my everyday life as my son lives with it. Although, I was dreading it, I'm so glad I went through with it because I was able to raise awareness for something that affects so many people, yet most people don't even know what it is. But that wasn't me out of the spotlight. I had to also perform a couple of songs of Sophia's choice(cheeky monkey but it's all love). She and her organisers did a fabulous job and the night ran smooooovely! :)

In my spare time...which is very limited, I LOVE going to gigs. I was lucky enough to be asked to go to the Eric Roberson show in Jazz Cafe. As usual he pleased his fans. He's such a talented guy and really down to earth. I had a little word with him after and he gave me some positive feedback on my EP which was nice. I was just glad he bothered to listen to it!!! Loool

I also had a chance to go see Vula @ Jazz re:freshed. Guys if you don't know about this girl, google her. She is one of UK finest singers and I'm not kidding...and she's got the sweetest smile...girlie crush coming on! lol

Me and a few friends went down to see her @ Mau Mau in Portobello road, West London, and she rocked the mic!!

Jazz re:freshed is a weekly event and entry is something stupid like £3/5...There's always fresh talent and a wicked vibe. Big up my Uprock massive!!!

So we all know I'm partial to a photoshoot or two! But my little sister Asantewa is new to it. So she asked me to accompany her to a shoot for her portfolio. She's not a model, but she's a GREAT dancer and needed to get some pictures done, so off we went to the depths of Deptford!!! What a flippin Trek! I'm sure you agree that she's quite the stunner. Silly moo calls me a twiglet and says it's better to be thicker than a snicker...cheeky lil girl. Watch out for her. She's a bad ASS dancer.

I can't wait for it to be mixed so I can give it to you. It's a proper slow jam. My mum says it's for the erm hmmmm intimate times, but I just think it's a deep love song. I'm a hopeless romantic...Where's My knight in shining armour?????

ME and the Birthday Girl NADIA

Last weekend I went to a club for the first time in ages. I'm more of a gig kinda girl but I know how to shake my tush on the dancefloor when I'm ready. And it was my girl, Nadia's bday. So we headed to Amika in Kensington High Street, but it was ...how can I put it as nicely as possible??? S*@t!!!! Really really bad...

Luckily, Le-Starr was running a club night across the road and was able to get us a cosy little section in the VIP section at a moment's notice. The girls got overly tipsy on Grey Goose mixtures and Sambucca and the birthday girl danced the night away.

This weekend was family chillout time. Saturday we had "lady's day" @ my mums house and Sunday, I spent time with my other family, the TRUTH MoveMENT. We're normally making music, but this Sunday, my sis Obenewa and I cooked for the boys and just vegged out! I just thought I'd post a little review that was done on my EP. I was contacted by Soul:UK as they heard that my Ep was ready and they wanted first dibs :)
I happily obliged and was pleased with what they had to say about it!

"Sometimes I come across an artist or music that seems to fill a void that I wasn’t even consciously aware was there in the first place. One such artists is Nadine Charles (and the music is her Introducing Miss Charles EP).

The ‘void’ in question is great female R&B, without the gimmicks, vocal effects, pop-crossover elements that seem so prevalent in today’s R&B starlets. If I was forced to draw comparisons with other artists I would probably choose someone like Faith Evans, Brandy or Monica.

I have been aware of Nadine for some time and many of those ‘in the know’ have been singing her praises at every opportunity, so she was definitely on my radar.

A chance visit over to her blog informed me that she had attended the Atlanta International Soul Summit, and finished up her debut EP. The cheeky curious side of me decided to drop her an email to see if I could get my hands on the EP and see if everything I had heard was true …. it was!

The EP is 7 tracks long and it’s obvious that the tracks were chosen carefully. There is no ‘filler’ (I know it’s an EP but it does happen) and the songs flow well, unlike a lot of EPs/mixtapes that seem to be cobbled together and released with no thought at all about how the finished project will sound as a complete package."

Hello girls and boys, mums and dads!

I'm back from Atlanta and I had such a wonderful time...I must admit, I was in two minds about coming home! Gotta be honest! But I am so grateful for the great time I had and I did miss my family and friends in Sunny (yeah right) London.
It's soo true about that Southern Hospitality. In 2 and a half weeks I think I came across just one unpleasant person! That's amazing. Everyone in ATL are just sooo nice :) I made many new friends and met up with some existing ones @ the International Soul Music summit too! I was also able to meet many of my facebook friends and fans @ the conference and at listening parties etc. It was a great experience.
I also had the chance to perform for my very first time in America. I've recorded out there before but, NO live performances. Luckily I was provided with an excellent guitarist, Mr Brandon A Thomas www.myspace.com/brandonathomas, he's amazing, check him out. I'll also post some footage of the show.

A couple days before I left for ATL, I finished up my EP so it is now READY! Can you believe it? We've been talking about it for a while now...and it is actually done! WOW! I hope my UK peeps will forgive me for giving the US a preview of it, but that's just how it panned out! Sorry. But I will have a fresh batch of cd's ready in the next couple of weeks. I just wanted to share this Radio interview I did a lil while back. I know some of you listened in, but for those of you who missed it, have a lil listen.

I'm off to Atlanta next week as I've been invited to the International Soul Music Summit. So in the search of sun and good Soul music I'll be off.
I'll try to do a blog while I'm out there if I get the chance because I know I've been really crap lately with my posts but I've been working really hard on my Ep. Oh! BTW I've finished all my recording for my EP. Just waiting on the producers to mix the tracks so hopefully you will be able to get your copies VERY soon!

Just a quickie,
Been so busy since Lil man got back from the states. I forgot how hard it was to juggle motherhood with everything else. It aint bloody easy I tell ya.
Anyhoo, I've been busy with him since it was his birthday on Saturday. I don't know where all the years have gone.
We've been on bike rides and all sorts. Just generally having fun. But I must say certain parts of my body are hurting from the exercise. At least he will keep me young!
I'm tres busy this week because I have a couple of photoshoots and a show along with summer holiday activities for the lil monkey!
So I'm keeping it short.
My good friend GREEDS' is having an Album Launch Party/show which I am part of. Funny man Simply Andy is hosting it and there will be performances from Cynthia Erivo, Enrico, Natalie Fiawoo and yours truly with the Remedy band.

He's worked so hard on this album and he's an amazing poet. You'd be mad to miss it.

Tears, Tantrums and TRIUMPHS :) !!!!!!

Wow, this week has been so up and down. The "downs" were pretty damn low, but the "ups" were high so they kinda cancelled out the lows...eventually! Some great stuff came out of this week, but I can safely say, this is a week I don't want to relive! Anyhoo, So I performed my an acoustic set with my guitarist Joe @ Style and Substance in Shoreditch on Tuesday. I was a little bit, well actually VERY nervous as I've just been recording in the studio and not performed live for a while. However the audience were very attentive, gave me great feedback and many of them joined my twitter before I had even left the building! Result :) Although I was pleased and relieved that the performance went well and the Sistova Production girls were happy with it, there were a few niggling things that were bothering me so I met up with my friend RuMel on Wednesday and had a girlie day @ Westfields shopping Centre. Just what the doctor ordered. We got some snazzy new underwear, some bits and bobs and most importantly FOOD! # We were both a lil down in the dumps, but after our bellies were filled and after our bit of retail therapy, we both perked up and left the Mall beaming :) As a continuation of our cheer ourselves up plan, we decided to get our glad rags out on Thursday night and go to the launch party of my friend Le-Starr's new business venture, Starr Cars www.starr-cars.com Check out the above link to see more about this exciting new Company which will cater for all your car hire and chauferring needs, AlWAYS treating you like the star that you are! It was held @ Funky Buddha in Mayfair. Despite the most awful weather, the type you get in the tropics quite a few people braved it and made their way down to join in the celebrations. We stayed for a couple of hours, but I really wasn't in the greatest of moods and very hungry. So Ru and I left to go on a late night creep to KFC. I tried to take it easy on Friday as I was scheduled to perform @ Soul-D-Out in the evening so I had a chill out day until soundcheck. As my fellow artists will know, shows can be very stressful as something always seems to go wrong before you even get on stage and we're (in the words of Ms Badu) very sensitive about our s*@t. I nearly made a run for it after soundcheck but luckily I got a call from someone with the midas touch and they calmed me down. And I must say, I think I actually smacked it. I really let go and gave myself to my songs and even shed a tear or ten! But I held it together and hopefully wasn't too shakey. I'd like to give a big shout out to my friend Jerry Barnett who came down to support me and also take some shots of me in action. They were all received very well and the audience danced and enjoyed their evening. I had to leave prematurely though because I had to go to the Jazz Cafe to go and see my boys, "The Score" who had a launch party. Unfortunately I missed their performance as we were both on stage at the same time, however they were all happy to see me as was I. Watch this space cos they're gonna be BIG! They've got groupies and everything...where's my groupies at? Saying that I got mobbed on the way to their gig by a lady, yes I said a Lady, who tried to kiss me, but all she got was a hug. Then I ran like the wind.

I don't know how I stayed up so late on Friday. I must've been running on pure adrenaline, but you'd better believe I was a Zombie on Saturday.
I just about had the energy to laze around on the sofa watching Come Dine With Me and True Movies with my Auntie. Calm before the storm! lol

Yesterday was a beautiful day so I called up Nadiva2 so she came over and we jumped in the car and headed South to go to the Jerk Cookout where there were thousands of people queuing up for chicken!
We were running on Black People and Indian People's time and got there at 6pm, the time it was supposed to finish, but luckily it was still in full flow!
I was only there for about an hour but bumped into so many people I knew. Loads of my musical friends were there, Kadija Kamara, Jason Jermaine, Miss Laidlaw and also saw my photographer friends too which is always a pleasure.
It was nice to finally meet some of my Facebook friends too. Many of them have been so supportive, by posting my music and watching and supporting my progress etc so it was great meeting them in the flesh.
So after our fill of Jerk chicken, we jumped back in the Nadiva mobile and went on the search for more Food!

We headed to Clapham where were found a lovely Spanish restaurant and sat outside and ate tapas.

On reflection, I guess it wasn't such a bad week. The lows made me appreciate the highs and what's life without dynamics aye?

Where oh where did the week go? Huh? Huh? Huh? Well?

Jeeze an peas!
Where the heck did this week disappear to? It's just flown by!
Last time I screamed at you it was Monday I think. I had a radio interview on Bang Radio 103.6 FM. Thank you to all of you that listened in. D'Nyce did a fabulous interview and was very forgiving for my late arrival! Thanks to my twitterers who kept me updated as I drove to the radio studio, who were listening in! You guys are special xxx
So I did the show and in a puff of smoke I was gone! That night my friend asked me out to shake my foot! I didn't need to be asked twice! So I rushed home and put on a LBD (lil black dress to you men)and some killer heels :)

I had a really good time, but didn't realise how tired I was. It wasn't till I got in my car that the tiredness crept all over me. I thought I would just relax a bit before I drove home and woke up half an hour later by a man tapping on my window trying to talk to me...I mean who does that?

Anyway, I got home safely and spent Tuesday re-cooperating. Then spent some more time with Black Einstein in the studio putting some more vocals on the track we're working on. I'm so loving the crazy harmonies. I love stacking them up and making it sound nice and fat! :) I was a happy chicken :)

Wednesday was pamper me day. Got my hair did. It's amazing what a lil bit of pampering can do for your spirit. It's soo necessary from time to time.
After spoiling myself, I didn't fancy cooking so I went down to my friend's Nigerian restaurant called D'Eclipse and munched some lovely food which made me wanna sleep...u know them ones! lol
They were having a little celebration at the restaurant (they're always making an excuse to have a party!) but I couldn't stay as I promised my friend Paul Soso that I would do a test shoot with him.
He's got some new equipment so he wanted to use me as his guinea pig at his home studio. A few of you have asked about his services, so I'm pleased to let you know he will be moving into a professional studio very soon. I'll give you more details in due course.

Although it was a quick shoot, I was starvin after so I met my friend at Nandos and had half, yes HALF a chicken plus sidelines. I really don't know how I do it! lol

But it hit the spot :)

Yesterday I had another session with the Einstein and in between us dancing and eating chocolate fudge cake, I think we've got all the vocals done! Now it needs a good mix down, then it will be finito.
Hopefully we will work together a lot more in the future cos we have fun and are very productive. A great formula :)

Sooo. I know it's the weekend and normlly the time for wild parties etc but I have a lot of stuff to do so no partying for me :(

I'll be performing at two events next week:
The first one is Style and Substance, a Sistova Production. An all female showcase.
I'll be doin a short acoustic set.

I'll also be performing with a full band at Soul-D-Out on Friday

Hey there,

Thought I'd do a lil quick post cos I'm feeling guilty for abandoning you for so long.

I've been busy this week recording and writing, so late nights for me, but I'm not complaining cos I'm doing my music. Well worth staying up for!

But I put it all on hold on Wednesday night to spend time with my friends. My girl Kadija was perfoming at a venue called "Punk" in Soho in a competition called "Soho's got Talent" so me and my friend Neil decided we'd go down to support her.

LOL...he's such a nutter

So we made our way down to the club via Busaba. For those of you that don't know about Busaba, google it. It's kinda like Wagamama, but better in my opinion. We ate so much, and everything we had was good, but I especially liked the duck in tamarind sauce and squid in ginger and peppercorns.

So we sluggishly walked down to Soho St with our stomach's lined for all the drinks we were about to consume.

We both weren't driving and childfree so we let our hair down...erm well he's bald, but you catch my drift.

Well....apparently Soho was lacking talent. Most of the acts were er....well not very talented!

However, my friend Kadija Kamara smashed it as always, with her brill band even though they only placed second...but you know the best person doesn't always win!

Despite the unentertaining entertainment, we had such a laugh, and luckily my friend and fellow artist Incisive www.twitter.com/incisive1 came to the rescue and took me home :) ! Apologies to Incisive and Shax who had to endure my banter all the way home!

Oh ...before I go I just wanna let you all know about my friend Mr Midas' new video. Unfortunately I couldn't make the video shoot, but it's HEAVY and the tune's a banger too!

Me Love You Long Time! LOL xx

Oh my days, I can't even remember everything I have been up to as it's been nearly a month since my last confession!
Okay, the last time I wrote on here I had just come back from Miami. It seems like that was months ago now, but I know it wasn't cos I just got my mobile phone bill. NOT nice....it hurt me so much to part with all that money for a phone bill, but even moreso because they are playing silly buggers and have suspended my line! What muppets! Hopefully the issue will be resolved by the end of the day because I am a crackberry addict and need a fix VERY soon!
My first week back in London was awful. I couldn't sleep properly and felt tired constantly so as you can imagine, I wasn't very happy or productive. I felt like a zombie.
I spent the second week running around getting my son's things together as he has now gone to the States for a month to see his cousins and go to a football camp as he's football crazy.
He deserved a treat anyway because he's done well at school and got a great report...and I could do with a break.
This is the first time in his life when I have been away from him for so long. It feels weird to have so much freedom, nice weird, but I have moments when I miss his cheeky face and lil high pitched voice.
But, as you parents/carers out there will know, it's hard being a parent 24/7 and sometimes it's nice to be 'Nadine' and not 'Jamare's Mum'.
So, like a teenager without a curfew, I went crazy and went out for the first few nights. Me and my girls went to Market Place in Soho :

Then the next day we went to Vendome in Mayfair. As you can see we had a fantastical time! Props to Le Starr for hooking us up xx

Aww my girlie poos! We have soo much fun ALWAYS... One day I'm gonna invite you guys along and u'd BETTER come ! lol

Anyhoo, after Vendome, I rested my lil hot feet for a bit and didn't go out that much. Basically stayed in and sorted out paperwork that was way overdue! It's so boring but necessary to keep on top of things. Trust me, I learned the hard way!

This weekend was just as fun packed as last. My friend Jason Grant who is a superb photographer invited me down to one of his shoots for a project he's working on. Check out http://www.blackartnudes.co.uk/ . Yep you guessed it....the models were totally starkers! They were all stunning though and in some of the shots they looked like sculptures.

He tried to convince me to pose along with them, but I was too chicken, so I compromised and did 'implied nude' which is probably a bit of a cop out but you don't need to see all my bits!

We had a laugh though and I got some good shots. Maybe one day I will share some of them with you...until then, have a look @ the link above to see some gorgeous shots of some beautiful black women.

After the shoot I was famished as usual and went to meet my friend in Finchley to eat and hang out. One of our favourite past times. Then later on I went to some event in Wembley to see my boys Money Train perform. Unfortunately, errm I was running on Eastern Caribbean timing and actually missed their performance, but I caught Hayley C's, who was amazing as usual. I actually saw her perform on Wednesday too @ Phraseology @ Mau Mau's Portobello road. See I told you I was gonna leave stuff out....but anyway. I had a busy saturday and fell into a deep slumber when I finally hit the sack.

On Sunday I got up too early, 6am...What the? Anyway, I thought let me just get up and go to church and avoid the screaming babies at the 10am service.

So I joined the pensioners @ the 8am service. I guess they were the only people up that early. I mean who gets up that early on a Sunday?

So I left church with a spring in my step, until I got drenched by the rain....

Seeing as I had a free afternoon, when my friend invited me to the cinema I said yes as I really wanted to see that 'The Hangover' film. So it was all smiles till we got to the cinema and then he announced he wanted to see TRANSFORMERS...Noooooooooooo

But luckily, God rewarded me for being a good girl, because Transformers last viewing had already started! Ha ha ha !

So I got my way and saw 'The Hangover' meanwhile he slept!

I laughed out loud many times cos it was sooo funny, stupid funny, but funny nevertheless.

Next stop...Soulcial on Brick lane. I had to rush down there with Nadiva 2 to go see my sister Obenewa perform. She was very sick but she is a proper star and performed despite her sniffling and smacked it! She had the crowd singing along and allsorts. If you guys don't know about my lil sis Obenewa you'd better get to know http://www.obenewa.blogspot.com/ !

We were also blessed with a performance from a good friend of mine G.R.E.E.D.S a talented young poet. I am so impressed with his work and growth. He has such a style of poetry that gives the listener no choice but to listen. Anyway, not gonna blow his trumpet anymore cos he's probably reading this and his lil big head is growing by the second! But I would like to see you all at the launch fo his EP on 23rd of August where I'll also be doing a guest performance. Details coming soon!

Okay, so now we're up to yesterday. What can I say? I had one of the best days ever. I finally got to work with Mr. Colin Emmanuel otherwise known as the Black Einstein. And he's just that. Genius. www.twitter.com/BlackEinstein

We've been chatting for a while saying blah de blah de blah, we must work on something soon, blah blah blah. But finally actually got to it. And it was magical!

I'm soo happy with the track so far and it's only a guide at the moment. It's definitely making my EP! See I told you guys, I would be working on my EP and I am. Got some nice tracks so far and I feel some more bubbling within me! lol

I'm back...feeling a mixture of emotions right now. Unfortunately I learned of Michael Jackson's death just before I left Miami and had a very uncomfortable journey!

But I give thanks that I made it back safely and I got to see my son for the first time in two weeks. He was ecstatic :)

I'm going to try to get over this Jet Lag ASAP so I can get on with life.

Yes yes peeps...I made it in one piece to Miami. I didn't actually think I was gonna make it here @ some points of the journey because of all the turbulence, but thank God, we arrived safely.
I planned on sleeping the whole journey as the two nights leading up to my departure, I was kept up by friends who decided to come over to say bye (even though I will be back soon)but I was happy to see them all the same and we had a laugh. So I was prepared to sleep for the entire ten hours, but I actually slept for about an hour and watched three movies including Notorious, which I thought was going to be rubbish,but proved me wrong.

Anyway after a bit of a bumpy journey, we landed in HOT HOT Miami! Not wanting to waste time, my sister and I decided to go to Circle Studios on our first day to work on some material with our cousin "LunchMoney" and even though our eyes were closing as we were writing, we got some work done.

Apart from Shopping, we pretty much chilled on our second day as we were overly tired and it all caught up with us. Sometimes there's no point fighting it as much as I wanted to paint the town red, I had to listen to my body, especially since I am still getting over my sickness.

Feeling a bit more refreshed, yesterday my Aunt came to pick us up to take us to South Beach where it all happens.
It was an absolute scorcher and I understood after 5 minutes why EVERYONE drives in Miami. It's too frikken hot to walk anywhere. You'll get sunstroke if you
try! So we took pigeon steps and walked into every other store to get some relief from the air conditioning!
I saw the beautiful Versace Mansion, where he was tragically killed some years ago. It's now a big tourist attraction and you can have a tour there or a meal, but as picturesque as it is, it felt a bit morbid for me to go in, so I took some pictures and kept it moving.
After having a bite to eat, we took a stroll down to the shops and did a bit of window shopping. I decided I was going to restrain myself as I don't wanna spend all my money in one day and I really don't want to have to bring out the cards...pray for me that I stay strong!

But I must say I was very tempted when I got to the pet shop where I saw the cutest lil doggies. I would have happily spent all my money on puppies and shipping cos they were so adorable. But common sense kicked in, because I already have a dog to look after. But look at the pictures and tell me if you wouldn't wanna take one of them home.

Gonna get ready now to go to the mall with another Aunt and my lil cousins...Good times :)

I made it...

Okay ...so I only made it from my bedroom to the front room, but at least I'm not bed bound anymore.
I am still feeling really weak and have lost my voice, which is kinda dire considering I am a "singer", but I don't feel like I have been kicked in the side of the head anymore or like I have sand paper in my throat.
But luckily I had family and friends who very bravely volunteered to do things for me and come and sit with me meanwhile I coughed my guts up!
My mum made me some very tasty and peppery chicken soup and another friend came all the way from North London to West, just to drop me some medicine and dvds so that I was fully drugged and occupied.

So now I am out of bed and I can finally think of packing for my Miami trip which is in a few days...hopefully I will be able to blog meanwhile I am out there. If not, keep up-to-date with me on twitter.

NO SHOW !!!

Apologies guys,
For those who were going to come and see me @ Soul-D-Out tonight...I won't be making it! I have tried to rest to recover from this sickness, but I actually feel worse right now.
My head, chest, ears and throat are all hurting and I would hate to give a less than average performance so I am staying in bed for the next few days to recuperate.
However, I will be performing @ the next Soul-D-Out in August with a full band.
I am really sorry to let the organisers down as this is very last minute, but it was very unexpected and I have been dosing myself up with cold and flu tablets, echinacea, ibuprofen, hay fever tablets, in a bid to shake this thing, but to no avail.
So I will definitely make sure the next show is worth the wait!
I will be resting up over the weekend. Probably just staying indoors, possibly writing. But nothing too strenuous as I have no appetite or energy.

I'm hoping I will be in a state to go out on Monday to go see my friends "The Score" perform, supported by "Obenewa" @ the roundhouse. It's gonna be a show and a half so fingers crossed.

OH MY DAYS !!!!

I am soooooooo sick...this is really not the time because I am so busy, or maybe that's why I'm sick. Not enough rest! No rest for the flippin wicked!
It seems like I haven't stopped since the last time I posted on here, and although it may seem like I'm moaning (and I am slightly) I actually feel blessed that I am busy because it's so hard to get things moving sometimes, but it's full steam ahead!!

Where did I leave off? I think I last wrote to you last weekend...Well Sunday was a beautiful day although I nearly got lost in London on the way to a TV interview for Jay Jay TV. I met up @ the studio with Erik Rico and his management to be interviewed by Mr Lucas, who also happens to be a good friend of mine from waaaay back!
After we headed down to Shoreditch to Bar Music Hall to see my sister perform, and what a great performance it was...As usual (I'm not biased btw)!

Monday I hardly had time to get over the weekend as I had to take my son to his check up @ the hosptial, but they doctors are very happy with his progress and the fact that his illness hasn't hindered his education. So it wasn't too bad apart from the part when they had to take blood samples, which he very understandably doesn't like. But he was brave and I was proud :)

On Tuesday, I spent a little time with my lil cuz Rosie May who I haven't seen for a few months. She's such a cutie.

Then my friend DJ Christoss took me to South London to meet up with a producer who's interested in working with me. I was very impressed with his work and he seems like he has a good work ethic too so hopefully we can sort something out so we can work together.

And yesterday...it was all about the TRUTH MOVEMENT! We spent all day in the studio and produced a track from scratch for my EP and it sounds BAAAAAAAD...I know lots of people have been waiting for my EP for a long time but I really wanna give you something special. So hopefully you will approve.

Anyway I am off now cos despite the fact I feel like crap, I have to get ready to go all the way to East London for a rehearsal for my gig tomorrow. So please pray for me.

Hello my gorgeous friends,

I'm feeling extra fantabulous right now. The weather has been fantastical and the sunshine can chase all the blues away.
Like I said the other day, apart from not being a millionairess, I can't really complain, so everything is jiggy!

I was meant to be doing a photo shoot today, but we were short of a stylist and I wasn't in the mood for styling myself, so I have postponed this shoot till I get back from Miami.
I have also booked some shoots meanwhile I'm out there so watch this space...and hopefully I will make it into the recording studio too. We'll play it all by ear because I want to rest too! Yeah right! lol

So...after all the excitement of Sunday's show (Soul Unique) and my extra long journey home, it took me a couple days to recover.
But as promised, I took my son out for the day. Luckily, living in West London there's lots available. We went for a Chinese meal and then to see that kids film "night at the museum 2" in Shepherds Bush. He loved it and was totally shattered when we got home. So it was a great day for us. I spend a lot of time with him, but very rarely do we have a day where it's all about him 100%. I didn't do any work and limited twittering!

Wednesday, like many of you, I watched the Barcelona v Manchester United match. I was rooting for Man U, so if you follow the footie, you'll know what sort of mood I went to bed in! Hmmmm

But, you know me, never down for long. Woke up in a good mood and had a nice jog in the morning as I kinda slacked for a few days. But I'm bang on it again. Jogging in the morning followed by a workout, so I can fit in with all those beach babes! lol...okay, maybe just so as not to stand out like a sore thumb.
So, that evening, I went to Love Soul Sessions to see Brooke Bailey, Aaron Washington and Erik Rico perform. I was also very pleased to finally meet DJ Barry King and Terry Bello who had come specifically from the states to do this gig. I really liked the atmosphere at the venue and I have been asked to perform at the next one so look out for the flyer.

So, getting back to today...I'm going to rest and tidy up as I kept getting side-tracked and interrupted yesterday, then probably go out for dinner or a movie, something that requires little energy as I have a very busy week ahead of me, meetings, rehearsals, workouts, shows, studio...and I'm sure much more!

Good Evening my lovelies,
I'm great :) I had a brilliant gig @ Soul Unique last night. I was so privileged to have been asked to perform on the same bill as the lovely Kyra UK, Phenomenal Fola and Sexy and sweet Baby Sol. We had a ball and the audience were very attentive.
I wanna thank my loyal supporters who came down to show me love. Some came from as far as Maidenhead, just to see lil ole me! I don't wanna start listing names because I know I will leave someone out, but you all know who you are. THANK YOU xxx

Me and mum who was up waaaaaay past her bedtime to see me sing last night

Unfortunately on my way home, the alternator on my car went on me...so instead of half an hour, it took about 2 hours for me to get to my bed!
But, I was rescued by a lovely recovery man who was so helpful and friendly, and gave service with a smile.
So I wasn't too upset and I still went to bed happy although it wasn't until 5am!

Today I have just been chillin with my son, watching Tv etc.
Now I'm sipping on a glass of Pinot as I'm typing this.
I'm going to relax for the rest of the evening, watch Britain's next Top Model and have an early one because tomorrow me and the little man are going on a little bus adventure to the cinema and shopping!

Hey Yall,
I know I know it's been a little while, but I haven't forgotten ya! I hope you are all well and above all happy! :) I am. Skint as a friggin flint, trust me peeps, this credit crunch thing is no joke! Okay, so I might be slightly exaggerating I'm not going hungry...yet, but it would be nice to splurge a lot more than I do. But hey, I'm off to Miami in a few weeks so I can't complain...Yay sun,sea,sand and erm more sun! :)

Last weekend seems like ages ago, I suppose it was, but I had a good one all the same.
My friend, poet, author and Youth Team leader Alexander Jackman, invited me down to his youth project on Saturday. Luckily he has received funding to take some of the kids on a trip to Boston, USA, but the previous week he had told them the trip was off. So when he told me he was going to tell them at the end of year presentation ceremony that the trip was still on, I had to be there to see their faces. And trust me it was priceless.
I had met them all before when I went to talk to them about careers. They were under the impression that if you have a talent, you don't have to study! How wrong could they be. I had to explain to them that they need something to fall back on. I know I don't use my qualifications as a Law graduate, but I could get a very good job if I decided not to sing anymore...not worth thinking about but I have to set a good example. Also, I know sometimes we make the wrong decisions and veer away from the path expected of us or what we have set out for ourselves, but it's not impossible to get back on track. I had my son at a very young age(he's nearly 10 now,so... yeah, I was quite young!) and I must admit I had second thoughts about going on to higher education. But I'm glad I stuck with it and proved to myself and others it can be done!

So, anyways, I enjoyed meeting up with my young people and glad with the progress they have made.
The project is not just a youth club where they play games. They are equipped with skills to help the 15/16 year olds deal with life after school. I was proud to be there and soppy me had a tear in my eye as they got their certificates!

Stush came down to talk to them as well and gave them some precious words of encouragement. She's had it tough, but she's still going and is a brilliant example to the kids, who asked her to perform "f ur ex" and joined in!
I think that was the highlight of my weekend, and I would like to thank Mr Jackman for allowing me to be involved because I know he loves those kids like his own family.

The rest of the weekend I just chilled with my family and those close to me. What more could I ask for?

YAY! I have a blackberry again! Luckily, I told my friend about my lack of sanity because of losing touch with the world, by having a 'standard' phone...and they gave a me a blackberry to use until my phone is repaired or replaced.
I was just talking to another friend earlier and he was saying that it's amazing how we are so reliant on technology...it's a scary truth, but it is reality.

This week, I've been quite fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with some of my some closest friends. On Monday, one of my friend's came and interrupted my trampolining session and told me to get showered cos he was taking me to lunch. We went to Richmond and had a lovely meal by the river. I love our relationship because it's genuine. True friends will disagree from time to time but if your relationship is real you will always come to some understanding and carry on.
That's us. Sometimes I don't like to hear what he's saying cos he's right and other times he will avoid me until as long as he can before he admits that he misses me and I'm right! I love being right!
He's going home soon (Seychelles) to see his dad and is threatening not to come back! But I know he will, cos he'll miss me too much!

Another friend of mine came back from spending 5 months in Nigeria! So we celebrated her return last night by going to see another good friend of mine perform in Wole Soyinka's play, "Death and the King's Horseman" @ the National Theatre. Nonso Anozie has acted on stage in the Shakespeare productions Othello and was the youngest person cast as King Lear in a professional production. Also he has starred in RocknRolla, Atonement and was the lead character in box office and dvd hit "Cass" based on a true story of a football hooligan. I sound like a proud mother boasting about him, but we have been friends for nearly 10 years and I am excited that his talent has been recognised.
I would highly recommend you to go and see this play as it highlights the differences between the British colonial culture and the Nigerian (Yoruba) traditions and how they collided in the 1940's.
There's loads of dancing and singing too, so you know I was loving that!
We all went for a few drinks in the Green room bar and had a nice catch up before Nonso had to sign all his fans' autographs and drop my friend and I home!
Twas a pleasant evening :)
But today I was left a bit worse for wear. I'll blame it on the a a a a a alcohol! LOL. Nah it was my fault for drinking on an empty stomach.

I can't believe it's Thursday already. This week has gone too quickly! We really need more hours in the day. Where has this year gone? Before we know it, we will be half way through and it seems like I just celebrated New Years. More reason not to procrastinate.

Quickly I just wanted to thank you all for the comments you left on my last post and the messages I received. Somebody has obviously got some issues they need to deal with,I'm thinking they could be a frustrated model who wants less competition as they seem to have a problem with me modelling, but it's cool and I won't stop. There's always one, lol, but I'm still gonna stay on my grind to do what I have to do to get where I wanna be.
Anyhoo, I had a relaxing weekend. I practically stayed in my house all weekend apart from going to church...ooh! How could I forget, last night I went to the studio to record a duet with my sis for her mixtape with the TRUTH MOVEMENT. The track is banging, it's called "Watcha mouth"...I will let you know how you can get a copy when it is available.
As for mine, you will have to wait a few more months, but it's coming and I appreciate your patience.

I'm upset guys...I went for years without having a blackberry, but since I got one last October, it has become a part of me. Unfortunately, last week Wednesday it went on a loo la! Out of the blue with no warning. Luckily, I listened to my friend Zalon who had the same problem, just days before. He told me to back up all my information on my computer. I am so grateful for that advice because I have so much stuff on that lil berry.
Carphone Warehouse actually took the p out of me though by giving me the crappiest most basic phone in the history of phones! And as I was leaving the store, the dude says to me "make sure you don't lose it otherwise you will have to pay for it"!!!
I had to count to about 30 and it took all my will not to dash the phone back at him! The handset must be worth about 10 quid. The cheek of the guy! He must have had a death wish. Pffft
Anyway, they're telling me it could take up to 28 days to fix my software issue! Should it really take that long peeps? So I am feeling a bit lost right now and all my fellow blackerry AKA crackberry users are sympathising with me cos they know they would feel!

What else...Yeah, like I said, I will be off to Miami shortly. Miami = beaches, pools etc, so it's only right I should have the perfect beach body. Luckily, I am only a size 6-8(uk) 2-4(US)and can kinda get away with being lazy. But I want that boom boom pow body...so I have started exercising again! So far I have been jogging two days in a row, first thing in the morning, then been jumping around on my trampoline. I've actually been enjoying it and feeling more enegry already. So I am definitely gonna keep it up!

I know I said I'll see you on the other side (of the weekend) but I thought I would just write a lil bitty blog to say thank you.
I only uploaded my EPK 24 hours ago, and already loads of you have checked it out. Also I see nearly as many of you have checked out my rehearsals that I put up and have sent me lovely messages. I'm glad you like those two songs as they are both sentimental to me. 'Missing u' because I sang that when I won Best Unsigned @ Earls court and 'Crazy' because I wrote it about 4 years ago and was great therapy for a situation that was very frustrating at times.
I know certain situations will test you and it is human nature or even animal instinct to sometimes lash out. But it's better to channel your energy into something more productive.
I'll let you in on a little secret. I have had a couple of negative comments from people or should I say a person, on this blog saying "you're too ugly to model", "stick to what you do best", " it's better to hear you and not see you".
I must admit, I was shocked that someone actually took the time out to firstly find my blog page, then write something so nasty. But at least they had to admit I could sing! lol.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, since then I have had numerous photographers, make up artists and stylists requesting to do photoshoots with me. I've actually had to postpone and turn some down because of my commitment to my music.
But what I'm trying to say girls and boys is...stay focused, the devil works in many ways, but don't let him win.
I'm a realist peeps, I know I'll never be Britain's Next Top Model, but funnily enough, I wouldn't want to be, but as long as I enjoy singing and posing and there is a demand for it...I will keep doing it...as for those who don't agree, look away and block your ears.

I stayed up for nearly 24 hours on Wednesday with John from Dirty Media doing my EPK (Electronic Press Kit). It's now up on youtube (check video bar) so have a look @ our hard work!

I don't know what I will be doing this weekend. But I doubt I will be going out. So you all go out there and party for me and tell me how it went.

OH WHAT A WEEK !

Hello beautiful people,
I hope you are all well and happy.
I'm not too bad apart from feeling totally knackered. But that's the story of my life so there's no point in complaining!
Anyhoo, I've been a bit of a busy bunny this week, therefore not having time to post blogs but you were always in mind. Sometimes I'm out and I'm like, "I wish I'd filmed that for my blog". Anyway, I was able to capture some of it on film for you, so here goes.

Okay...so Wednesday I had a meeting in Giraffe in Chiswick. As you know I lurve to eat so it was a greeeaaaat meeting :)

Thursday, I was booked for a photoshoot in West Hampstead so I had to get an early night.
It was with the talented Mr Paul Soso. He's very artistic in the way he shoots and is not afraid to experiment either. Google him and also search for him on Facebook. He has a group on there with loads of examples of his work.
Most people think modelling is easy because all you have to do is "pose", but there's a lot more to it and I am always tired and hungry after a shoot. I had actually planned on going out to a restaurant with a friend who has an office just down the road from the location, but as usual the shoot overran and I had to make do with Nandos AGAIN! I think I am gonna actually overdose on chicken very soon.

I'm still waiting for the images to be sent through, but see above for a couple of them.

I had been looking forward to Friday all week because I had planned on going to the Teedra Moses show, and I am a big fan of hers so I made sure I got my hands on some tickets as soon as her show was announced.
Everyone likes to think they're unique and I think we all are but alot of people have actually compared me to Teedra many times, on a musical and physical level, even Raphael (Saadiq) who knows both of us, so I wasn't surprised to be mistaken for her as I entered 'The Venue'. It's mad that she calls herself the 'young lioness' too because over the years my friends have likened me to a lioness. It's all a coincidence, but I don't actually mind as she's someone I admire anyways.
And she didn't disappoint despite the many technical hitches, which were out of her control. But she was a proper professional, soldiered through it and gave her fans a good show.

When the show was over, my friends and I decided the night was still young and headed over to one of Mink Events @ Carbon in Marble Arch, where I met some more of my friends. I planned to just breeze through but ended up staying for a couple of hours despite knowing I had to get up early for a photoshoot in Oxford on Saturday
morning.

I regretted my late night @ approximately 7:30am Saturday morning when I had to get up and get myself ready to go to oxford for another shoot. I was excited about this one because the photographer (Nicola Belson http://www.modelmayhem.com/1028182) had chosen a beautiful location called Harcourt Aboretum. It was so picturesque. I didn't even feel like I was in England at times because of all the tropical flowers. It was a great place to escape and luckily the weather was perfect.

Sunday SHOULD have been a day of rest, but it was still all go for me! After church, I was put to work because it was my sister's bday so I had to go and cook for her get-together. But we had a great time. It was a girlie night so as you can imagine we chatted till we were literally falling asleep! And no, we didn't spend all the time chatting about men...much! lol

Which brings me to yesterday, Bank holiday Monday. I was invited to the Kele Le Roc video shoot for her latest single 'Retro'.
I was honoured to be there because I have a lot of respect for Kele. She's been in this business for a while and still has so much passion for it. We were graced with the presence of legends Omar an Don-E and also my friend Zalon, who is now in St.Lucia recording with Amy Winehouse.
It was a looong day as there was a lot of waiting around and re-takes. But Kele seemed to be happy with the result and that's what matters. Look out for the video...coming soon.

I'm hitting the bottle again....

I think I have an addiction. For the last two years I have reached for that bottle, time after time. But in the last two weeks I have stayed away in the hope of giving up, but I feel myself weakening under the pressures of everyday life!

Nah silly....I'm not an alcoholic, but I really wanna dye my hair black again. I was trying to go natural, but I really hate my brown hair colour so i think I will succumb tonight!

How beautiful is this weather? I love it. I get so much more stuff done in the summer. As soon as the sun pops up I'm up and out! lol About a month ago I joined Twitter. I must admit that I didn't really get it to start with but I am getting into the swing of things now and update it frequently on my Blackberry, with my ramblings and random thoughts, but I do sometime share valuable information...but to tell you the truth its mainly whatever pops into my head or things I see when I am out and about. I'm not gonna bore you with everything I've done in the past week, just the highlights.

So...last Friday me and the girls went Roller Skating in Wembley! LOL...Well I was absolutely rubbish at it but we had a laugh. The music was banging and there were loads of us that couldn't skate that well so I didn't feel like the only plonker! But by the end of the night I just wanted to take my skates of and dance. The next evening, I was able to do just that as my lovely friend Rumel invited me to go and see Chante Moore and Kenny Lattimore @ Camden's Jazz Cafe. They are such a beautiful couple, and boy can they sing. I always knew Chante was a good vocalist, but she was actually amazing. She was hitting those Minnie Ripperton notes with ease, made me wanna go home and practice!

I want to say Happy birthday to my friend Courtney, who turned 21 on Monday (you're getting old Courts)! We went out last night for a celebration and had a good laugh! We discovered Baileys and Sambuca (AKA slippery nipple) shots and went home buzzing! Good thing we lined our tummies with Nandos first!

On a musical note, I have confirmed a couple more shows. When the flyers are done I will put them up on here and let you know through Myspace, Twitter, Facebook etc :)

Funky Bunnies!

Hey yall,
I hope you're not feeling sick from over indulging in Easter eggs. I didn't consume even one! But I have a nice pack of mini Cadbury's Creme eggs in my fridge....yum yum
I didn't end up going out to dinner on Saturday, I was feeling a bit under the weather, so i ended up falling asleep on my sofa in front of the TV like a nice big couch potato!
I woke up bright and early feeling a nice spring in my step and bounced off to church! The priest wrapped it all up very quickly, which was kinda a blessing because the church was heaving with people that come twice a year! Easter and Christmas! lol. But it's all good. You don't need to go to church to be a good Christian. I know too many people who practically live in church and really don't live their lives right...go figure!

So in keeping with the Easter theme, I hopped on down to Funky Buddha Last night to a bunny themed party! We had a crazy time and as usual, we partied hard and danced like little nutters!
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend too...I can't wait for the next one!

Good Friday ???

Hey,
What's today called? I should know, being a good Catholic girl...Yesterday was Good Friday, tomorrow's Easter Sunday...It must be Easter Saturday or Something.
Well yesterday I went out...I don't normally go out on a Friday, but my friend Courtney started a club night at Kensington Bar and kitchen in...erm...Kensington.
It was a really nice venue, and although it was the launch night and it's kinda give or take whether people will turn up, quite a few people did.
It had a great atmosphere and I am looking forward to going back and bringing more friends down. I will let you know when, maybe you could join me.
The rain tried to spoil the night but we were all in high spirits so we had fun.
Because I don't get out that much I thought I would make the most of it and go to another club too, so I left Kensington bar after a couple of hours and went to meet my friends at Carbon.

We had fun as usual, the night went really well until right at the end when some pathetic woman...not mentioning any names (it's not my duty or style to name and shame), decided to act up. I don't wanna waste too much time on this issue, but it's ridiculous when grown folk don't know how to deal with situations in an adult way, then wonder why they get switched on. If you're not getting attention or respect for who you are, go away and work on it, don't take your insecurities out on others. Basically, just grow up.
Anyhoo, I am having a chillout Saturday until this evening, when I'll probably go out for dinner. I don't think I will put on my dancing shoes tonight....but ya never know, my son is with his dad so...
Will let you know if I do...or I may even see you out and about.

Sorry Sorry Sorry...I hope you still have love for me...

Hey yall, I've been a naughty girl...well technically I have been a good girl cos I've been working hard, but I haven't written on here for a couple of weeks. Slap on the wrist. I hope you are forgiving... Anyway, apologies out of the way now...How are you??? As some of you know I supported Mr Anthony Hamilton at Indigo o2 last week.

I was so excited to be a part of it! lol

He was such a nice, genuine guy and took the time out to stand at the side of the stage and watch my performance and gave me great feedback, as did some of you guys who came down. I'm so glad that loads of you came and said hi to me and others sent me messages to congratulate me on my performance. I feel like I am on a journey, and many of you have been with me for a while now. I appreciate that. I must also big up my friends and family (especially my God Mother who came over from Washington DC) who came down specifically to see myself and sis perform and left before Anthony came on stage. That's support. £27.50 to see a half hour set.
So leading up to the show, there was a lot of preparations, rehearsals, fittings for clothes, blah de blah. Also did promo at Bang fm and Lightning Fm, which was a lot of fun.

It's mad how much preparation goes into a show and then it's just over in a blink of an eye. Sometimes it's like you're not even there. Like an out of body experience...weird.
But it was a great show and Anthony wooed us with his silky tones.

After the show was over, although I have lots of other exciting things in the pipeline, I was able to have some well earned rest and had the opportunity to spend the day (whole day) in Westfields with my God Mother,who is now back in Washington :( but, when I get back from Miami I will make plans to visit her there. She says there's lots to do so I'm on it like Sonic!
I've missed out so many juicy bits, but I'm trying to summarise it so I can get some food. My stomach's really talking to me right now. I have had a really large appetite lately. It's like I am constantly eating, but I have not put on any weight
:( I'm gonna try to fall back into my old habit and update you as much as possible but I have been rushed off my lil feet (size 4) for any of you who wanna donate a pair of shoes to my collection ...lol. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Happy Mother's day, to all you mothers out there and all of those wonderful ladies who provide a mother/nurturing figure to our children. You are appreciated.
I know most of you don't do your job (and it is a job) for praise, but it's nice to be recognised for the positive things you do in life. So I thank all my friends who have re-assured me not just today but frequently that I am doing my best. And also my special little boy who tells me 'I'm the best mummy in the world', aww bless him, he doesn't know what's out there! lol

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. I must say, the sunshine makes everything seem much nicer. Even if you're tired, it makes it that little bit easier to get out of bed. I.e, yesterday morning.
Monday to Friday when it's school time I have to literally drag my son out of bed, bribe him with waffles ,pancakes and all sorts. But on Saturday mornings, he is up before the blinking birds start tweeting!
Why did this child come into my room at 6:30 yesterday morning and decide it was time to wiggle and sing in my bed? Right in my ear!
So eventually I got up and made him cereal, then packed him off to footie with his best mate. A little voice in my head said "go back to bed Nads", but I fought it and went shopping nice and early. I beat the crowds (cos I hate crowds) and got me bits and pieces. Two new lovely belly rings...what else did I get? hmmm... can't even remember now. Oh yeah. I bought a brand new set of curling tongs and went to the opticians to sort out me eyes! If you guys knew how blind I am, you'd actually feel sorry for me.
I rushed around the shopping centre for about an hour, avoiding the shops that would get me in trouble, as it was an unsaid new year's resolution to be sensible, and so far so good.
I got back home before midday and felt accomplished. If I had listened to 'naughty nads' I wouldn't have reached the shops at all yesterday.
So I rewarded myself with a lazy afternoon, scaring myself by watching the Crime channel! What is wrong with me? It scares me but I like to see how the cases unfold.

The day went so quickly. Before I knew it, it was early evening and I was scheduled to pop into the charity event for the support of Africa's Witch children, which was held in Camden. It is such a worthwhile cause. It's to help fund the out casted children of Nigeria, who have been deemed witches by their families. So sad...My friend Kadija Kamara was performing there so I thought I would show my support to her and also Isaak Badru (Kubi and Isaak show Playvybz.com sun 1-4) who was hosting. It was a well-organised event with lots of acts, but unfortunately few attendees, which I am putting down to the dreaded 'credit crunch'.
I stayed there for a little while then had to rush off to dinner in the West end at a lovely Thai restaurant off Regent's Street. Like I said, the other day I love Thai food. I just hope I don't overdo it and end up getting sick of it. But anyway I had a pleasant evening, which luckily ended quite early so I was tucked up in bed before midnight! Nice :)

That brings us to today. Mothering Sunday. I woke up bright and early and decided to go to 10 O'clock mass. It was a lovely service and the children gave all the ladies in the congregation daffodils. So sweet. :)

After cooking dinner and dropping my mums flowers to her, I've been a total couch potato. But my son insists I rest because it's my special day, and who am I to argue???

Wow, it seems like ages since I came back, but it literally has been days.
I spent most of Tuesday catching up with emails etc that mounted up over the weekend because I refused to go online meanwhile I was away.
On Wednesday Candy from Fashionista-Sistah.com brought me a copy of the video that will be uploaded to their site this weekend. It's looking great and I hope you will like it!
Then my friend/make up artist, RuMel came over for a day of madness. We went shopping for food then, we came back to my flat and I cooked a tasty meal of prawns and rice! We were both really hungry and ate so much we couldn't move! We just flaked out on my sofa!
When the food had finally digested, Ru did my eyelash extensions (oh yeah...after we stuffed our faces with swiss chocs! lol). She recently did a course on applying them, so I am her guinea pig.
We did actually plan on going out but she took a million years to do them (she is still new to it), so by the time she finished, I couldn't be bothered to go through the whole 'getting ready' procedure so we went on a late night trip to McD's because I had a milkshake craving, however I ending up having nuggets, fries and a burger too! lol
But the eyelashes look great and I haven't lost one of them yet...so the hours of labour was worth it! Thanks Ru xx
I would also like to say a BIIIIIIG thank you to DJ Christoss who played some of my music on Lightning FM 90.8fm on Wednesday night. He believes in my music and knew his listeners would like it too.
He played 'Simple Sacrifice' and 'You're my boy'. Both were received very well and were requested to be rewound many times!

Well rested...

I've had a busy weekend, but surprisingly I feel well rested. I guess it's because we took everything in our stride.
Madrid is not like London. Although it is a big city, the atmosphere is much more relaxed.
So, we arrived at madrid airport Saturday afternoon. Chose our rooms at the hotel Puerta Americas and headed out to the shops ( we are typical girls...love to shop)!

When all the shops had closed, we decided it was time that we headed back to the hotel and got picked up so that we could Freshen up and go out again.

A couple hours later two friends of ours picked us up and took us to a late night place to eat as it was about 11:30pm by then!

we were more tired than we realised, after all the travelling and shopping so we didn't end up staying out that late. But my bed was soooo cosy!

After a GREAAAT sleep, we got up quite early so as not to waste the sunshine.

We headed to one of the main cities called 'Sol' where we saw some street performers singing and playing

That evening we went to a club where 2000black were playing, with Benji B on the decks!

That was my weekend in a nutshell!

Hey peeps,
I've been meaning to write a lil sumthin on here for the past few days, and kept logging on to write something and kept getting side-tracked by one thing or another.
What have I been up to ??? Hmmmm
Friday I went to an event in Camden. The performers were singing mainly classical music, and I went only as a spectator, but one of the organisers asked me to bless the mic, so as not to be rude, I obliged. I sang a gospel song that was written for me and the audience seemed to really enjoy it...well they clapped at the end!lol
After that I headed down to the West End to meet up with some friends to celebrate Ghana's Independence! We had fun and I didn't get to bed till really late, but luckily I didn't have to get up early on Saturday morning.
Stayed in all day Saturday, only leaving my flat for some Thai food, which was probably not the best idea since I had a bit of a dodgy stomach. But I had a craving for some seafood fried rice and thai green chicken curry, so I went for it!
Sunday... it was an early one ... my son had to be at the football grounds in Barnes at 9:30 am! yes 9:30!...Bloody torture. Anyway, despite the other team cheating, my son's team won 6-2, my son scoring a BAAAAAD goal! Go Jamare :) xxx

I have got a lot of stuff coming up so I have spent the last couple of days making preparations. Been a bit of a hermit really. But it has to be done.

Oh, by the way, I would like to say a BIG hi to some of my supporters who I saw out at the club on Friday night. I appreciate you coming up to me and letting me know you appreciate my work and you've got my back. Bless you xxx

Hello,
So you all know, I was feeling down about being in London as opposed to Amsterdam, but last night we really let our hair down and had a good time.
I stayed in all day yesterday (Saturday) tidying up and just watching movies. Had a visit from a long lost friend and relaxed. Then in the evening, I headed towards North London for the launch party of a new Salon (La Bella) that will be opening at Arsenal's Emirate stadium. As we arrived there were belly dancers and 'snake man'...very strange, but entertaining.
My friend Rumel and I chilled in our little allocated area until Mr Collins swung by and in a puff of smoke, we were gone. We headed off to Jalouse in London's West End.

When you go clubbing in the West End, some people can be really pretentious, but we just ignored those types and showed them how to let their hair down. We had a fab time and can't wait till we have another night out.
I haven't danced that much in ages. My feet are still killing me now and it's time to get up to take my son to football :(
He'll be here in a minute so I'd better get up because I have only half an hour to get myself ready.
Gotta go my lil ones but have a great Sunday and stay blessed.

Just touching base....

Hey,

This week I have felt really drained. I dunno what the cause of it is because I have had a good 7/8 hours sleep every night and have been eating well. Maybe I am just run down as I have been running around like my pants are on fire.
I'm a bit upset because right now I should be in Amsterdam...but unfortunately I am here. Very long story. But I will be heading out of London in a couple weeks so I have something to look forward to. I will actually cry if that plan goes to pot as well.
So.. I found out a couple days ago that I was going to be stuck in England instead of jammin at the Paridiso in Amsterdam. So my lovely friend Natalie got tickets for an event in the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith to cheer me up. Isn't she a darling? She was like " right woman, I've got tickets for tomorrow night. We're going out"! So we went to the event called " Just for the love" and had a really good time. I'm glad she gave me no choice otherwise I probably would have chosen to stay indoors.

I went home with a few more laughter lines and feeling grateful that I have such good friends who take control when they need to and know what is best for me.

I am not 100% sure what I am doing this weekend. I think there are a couple of launch parties I am supposed to attend.

Hey you!

Today has been a day full of fabulousity :) for it was Emmy Collin's Photoshoot for his current collection. So as his friend I leant him a hand.

So I headed off to Grafton house in Clapham Common, which was the location for the shoot armed with a small case of accessories!

There was a great atmosphere as everyone worked together to get all the shots in required for the catologue. And they were so professional.
Byuti kasei did a fantastic job on the make-up. I suppose her job was made easy by the fact the models were absolutely gorgeous.

So...we had a lovely, productive day and you will be able to see the photos, taken by Darrel Hunter up on Emmy's site www.emmycollins.com very soon.

By the way...just incase any of the models, or Emmy got any diva-ish ideas I let them know that it is and will always be about me! lol

Okey smokey, I'm cream crackered and I have a rehearsal tomorrow so I'm gonna watch some rubbish on TV and have an early night.

Work to do...

Good evening,
I am soooooooooo tired.
I have had a heavy day.
It seems like the past few days I have been living my life off a "to do list". it works, but when you have so many things to do you have to write them down so you get everything done, you know you're busy....or ...maybe I have just got a really bad memory. Either way, these lists have proven useful for me.
Like I said last night, I had a shoot with Fashionista-sistah.com today. We shot a fashion feature for their online magazine. I took them to my favourite lil' boutique, Lara's Boutique in Chiswick West London. I told you all about this place before. It's the store where I got my gorgeous birthday dress...

I planned to spend the whole day preparing for the shoot. But before I knew it it was 3pm and I just about had my hair and nails done! The original make up artist unfortunately couldn't make the shoot and I was going to have to do a DIY job...but luckily my friend Byuti Kasei came to the rescue and came down to the location and fixed me up nicely. I love ya girl xx

The shoot was scheduled for 5:30pm so that we wouldn't be disturbed by curious shoppers, even though we got a few people watching us film through the shop window! Kindly, Fleur and Lisa both stayed until we got the job done, were very accommodating and gave their input which was much appreciated. Thank you girls.
I was able to choose some lovely outfits and came out of the shop tired but smiling.
Well done to the Fashionista-sistah team and also the staff at Lara's boutique for a lovely evening.
Footage is being edited etc and I will let you know when it is up on the site.

My eyes won't stay open any longer.
I'm gonna hit the hay

BUSY BUSY BUSY!!!!

HEY!!!

I thought I'd drop u a little message before I hit the sack. I have been so busy over the last few days, it's crazy. A total contrast to my lazy weekend!
Apart from taking my dog for her periodic walks, I pretty much stayed at home all weekend until Sunday evening, when I went to an event called "LOL" to watch my sister, Obenewa and friend Natalie perform. I didn't stay for the whole thing because they both performed in the first half, but the acts on the night were of a high standard. There was this comedienne called Glenda Jackson....she had me in stitches, my sides actually hurt after!

And I finally got the pics of the shoot I did with Darrel. You know, the impromptu shoot I did at the begininng of January. I think he did a fantastic job and I must give myself some props for the make up! lol. I didn't have a make up artist as it was a last minute thing, but it actually came out alright! (see above pic)

I'm feeling rather sleepy now, so I'm gonna disappear now. I have filming tomorrow for Fashionista-sistah.com so I need to get my rest.

Happy Valentine's day all!

Okay, so I know it's a day late, but hey, it's the thought that counts :)
I'm not into all that Valentine's stuff, well I don't mind celebrating it, but I am not too fussed about it to be honest. It's just another day. I don't see why people just wait for one day to show their partner that they love them. So I decided to just chillax all weekend indoors and do nothing special.
To my surprise I received a delivery of 50 roses and a big bunch of balloons. It was a nice gesture and the person who I know sent them to me (because of the message inscribed in the card) still refuses to admit it was him! Oh well, I should give someone else the credit and see how quickly he will own up! lol
Anyway, like I said, it was a nice gesture, because it did make me smile. But just a little tip for you men reading this...any girl who really cares about you will be happy with anything you put your heart into, even if it is just one flower or a simple card. I know a lot of you felt under pressure becasue of the 'credit crunch' but, like xmas, valentine's day shouldn't be about how much you spend, but the incentive behind the gift...

I'M IN LOVE!!!!

Yep guys you read correctly.

I've got that feeling. I feel invincible as long as we are together. And we WILL be together forever. No one can tell me otherwise, cos I wouldn't listen. I smile at the thought of them. Only they can evoke all my emotions, good, bad and all those in between.

Now, you might think I'm coo coo, but I couldn't give a damn, because I am in love with "music".
I've spent all day listening to so much different types of music and it gives me an indescribable feeling.
I mean I know I have always loved music...but you know when something just reminds you just why you are in love and how much you love that thing/person etc...

Anyways, enough of that chat...Just thought I would set the record straight, music always has and will be my first love so guys....just lettin u know :)

Music and me!

What have I been up to these past few days?

Okay...so I told you I was meant to go to that event on Friday. Can you believe I got all dressed up to go and actually left my flat. Luckily, I texted the organisers to let them know I was on my way...and they called me to say that it had been postponed due to weather conditions...pfft, it wasn't even that bad. But anyway, it's been rescheduled for two week's time. Hopefully I will be able to make it down.
It was kinda a blessing cos I had to go and sing the next day and a tired voice is not a happy voice!

So, Saturday, once I had packed my son off to his dads, I headed to the Studio to go and work on a track with my cuz Kassa 'Progression' Alexander, who is a genius on keys and a bad boy producer.
We started a track from scratch and finished it in one session. I'm really happy with what we achieved and I will put a snippet up on myspace as soon as it is mixed for ya.
Cos I was there practically all day, I was absolutely smackered by the time we finished. But it was that good tired. You know the one you get after working hard on something and feel like it is was worth busting your guts to get it done!

Sunday, I woke up quite early and did the whole cooking thing (cos I like to cook as early as possible), then took my son to church as soon as he got back from his dad's because he didn't have football this sunday due to a frozen pitch, which was absolutely fine by me :)

I had quite a relaxing day then got ready to meet my friend, fashion designer Emmy Collins www.emmycollins.com, to go to a champagne networking party held by the British Fashion Council @ Vanilla in the West end. It wasn't the kind of event I am used to but after a couple of glasses of Champagne, Emmy and I had a laugh!
But after being teased with the canapes, I had to rush home to have a nice big plate of food. I don't know where this appetite has come from, but hey, I welcome it!

Finally!

Ok...so the crappy weather hasn't totally gone, but at least it is not stopping us getting about! So I am happy.

I have had a nice couple of days...
When I finally got out of the house, I felt like I had been released from jail and I was elated. It's mad how much we take simple things for granted.
So first thing Wednesday morning I dropped my son to school...it was so nice having a break because he was my shadow for nearly two weeks because he was too sick to go to school. My child literally followed me everywhere. Maybe because he was feeling unwell he wanted to be close to me, but at times it wasn't very practical, like when I was typing and he wanted to hold my hand!
Anyway he's a lot better now and I can get back to the grind :)
I had a relaxing day on Wednesday. Did the whole girlie thing again, you know feet done etc...I like wearing nice shoes, so I have to make sure the feet do them justice :)
I had a free evening because my son was with his dad and planned on just watching TV or going to chill with my sister, but I got a very welcomed dinner invite from a friend I haven't seen for a couple months. It was a blessing really, cos there's never really much on TV on a Wednesday and I had exhausted all the programmes I had recorded on my sky planner when I was snowed in! I had a lovely evening and I hope we don't leave it months before we meet up again...

I woke up Thursday feeling a bit tired as I didn't get to bed till late and you all know I am an early bird, but I had a rehearsal which was reason enough for me to jump out of bed. I am never too tired to sing.
We had a great rehearsal and I also had a chance to listen to some new tracks that I will be singing on...exciting stuff :)

So I got my music hit...It's mad, it is really like a drug. Once I have a dose I am good :)
I had a different kind of energy when I left my rehearsals which gave me the strength to get on with my day with a smile (not that I was grumpy anyways, but you know what i mean)...Did my shopping and got my lil cutie from school.

My baby is as crazy as his mummy! lol

Just Beautiful

After picking him up, it was homework time. He had a project to do on the Olympics and he didn't even need my help. He did his research on the computer and wrote so neatly and joined up! I was so proud.
He went off to youth club after dinner and I had 2 hours to myself to tidy up and get myself ready to go out to an event called Remedy, which is a live gig which takes place @ Oh Bar Camden. My friend Kadija Kamara was singing so I went down to support her...and it's her birthday today. Happy Birthday Kads xxxx

So two late nights in a row, but there's no rest for the wicked. I'm supposed to go to another event tonight @ the Cobden as I should be performing there later on this year...so God willing, I will have the strength to go. It's gonna have to be an early one because I have a studio session tommorow and I want my vocals to be nice and sweet , not all dry and crusty! lol

Arghhhhh people!
Yeah the snow is beautiful...I admit it, but it doesn't work for me. I have been stuck in the house for the past two days because schools are closed and I don't wanna take the chance and drive. Luckily I live right next to a Tesco Extra and have had loads to eat ...but I am tearing my hair out now and just getting fat. Ok, slight exaggeration as I very much doubt that is possible, but you catch my drift.

I wanna go to the studio and sing, but I can't get there...

BUT...on a positive note, my 5 day headache has practically gone and my son is much better now so I do give thanks for that.

Hopefully it won't snow too much now, but be careful on the ice cos it's much more dangerous now.

Heidi ho...I am having a restless night.
I should be enjoying my freedom and making the most of my night off cos my son is with his father, but I have had a pretty pitiful evening.
Daytime was good. Pampered myself, nails and toes done. Then went to meet my friend and clothing designer Emmy Collins for a fitting and we ended up (well he ended up dressing me up). But it was fun. I can't wait for the rest of his new collection to arrive. Check out his website guys www.emmycollins.com and he caters for men too!
Anyway, I was not very good company and left him after a couple of hours to come home and sleep...but it is 2 am and I am still awake! I dunno what to do to force myself to sleep...this is crazy.

I'm just a big kid! LOL

So I had to put my plans on hold and take some time out this week, due to a couple members of my immediate family being ill. But that's how life goes and they are well on the road to recovery now, thank God.
Being the dorky big kid I am, I forced them to watch one of my favourite musicals 'Annie'. Dunno about them, but I really enjoyed it and have been singing all the songs ever since...but I didn't realise there were so many sexual innuendos...Miss Hannigan was very forward every time she was in male presence. My son was like "she loves everyone doesn't she mummy?"...I was like, "yeah she is very friendly isn't she?"...It's crazy how everything seems different when you are a kid...
Nevertheless, I am a big kid and enjoyed the fairytale ending and I am waiting for my Daddy Warbucks to come and adopt me still!

So...I had a million and one things planned for this week, but it's mad how quickly things change.
My son is not well, don't worry, it's just a chest infection, but I have to make sure it doesn't get any worse because of his condition.
But he is okay. Just doing my head in! His usual verbal diarrhoea seems to have intensified! And I am stuck watching Action man, The Suite life of Zach and Cody, Marry Poppins. Arrrrghhhhhh!!!!!!
I am quite a homely person, so I don't mind staying in, but having no choice is NOT the lick.
Anyway. I've had my moan now. I feel a lot better :)

So I ended up going out last night.
I was in two minds, but I thought, hey, what the hay!
So off I went to Carbon to meet my friend Adanna and co. Well not before a few technical hitches. I couldn't get my hair to curl!!! I tried with the GHD's (girls you know what I'm talking about) but the curls looked a bit uncurly. So Plan B ...I got out the old large barrelled Treseme curling tongs. But by this time the clock was ticking and I was left with 5 minutes to put on me face, hence the lack of make up.
So...and I know it's been a re-occuring theme in my life lately...but I was late.
And when I got there there was a massive queue...Luckily my boys Geran and Antoine AKA D&G specialists came to the rescue and got me in ( I love u guys)...As usual the music was banging and the vibe was great.
But never again will I underestimate the potentness of Vodka...all I can say is, it proper knocked me and I had to crash at a friend's house because I obviously couldn't drink and drive...BIG no no!
I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and woke up at midday. I regret drinking because normally I know my limits. But as I have never really drunk vodka before, I didn't realise how it would affect me...and I only had what I thought was a small quantity.
Oh well, you live and learn and I had a good sleep anyway ;)

I have just been indoors chilling with my son today. Cooked the Sunday dinner of jerk chicken and rice and peas.
I was meant to perform tonight at an event but due to unforeseen circumstances, had to cancel. But there will be more performances very soon.

Wow, I can't believe the weekend is nearly over already. It just flew by.
Got loads of stuff to do this week...oooooh and I'm looking forward to the new series of America's Next Top Model...it's gonna be a good one...apparently there is a transexual in the top 12!

Hey,

I hope you are doing well.
I've been deprived of my sleep for the last few nights for one reason or another.
Last night, well this morning my phone went off at 4:30am...text message! A totally irrelevant message at that. I was so vexed. When I replied saying why did you send me this message, the person was like, " how come you're up?" HELLO!!!! You just sent me a bloody message.
Anyone who knows me, knows I love my sleep so I didn't appreciate it AT ALL,especially in the knowledge that I had a busy day ahead of me.
I had a rehearsal at 10:30 am...which I didn't reach till 11:30!
Then I had to meet Nadia who is doing a great job as my PA. She's been looking after my fan page and responding to messages on my behalf and generally just keeping stuff in order. Had a lovely cuppa and before I knew it, it was time to pick up my one son ;)
Had to make him dinner, now I'm just flaking out.
It's gonna be an early one tonight. I intended on having one last night, but went to see my friend, who is the mother of my little cutie cousin, Savannah. She just turned four, well last month, but she had chicken pox on her birthday so her party was cancelled :( So I took her present over yesterday...and she loved her Lola doll :)
She's a lucky little girl cos she also got a puppy for her bday. She's only 7 weeks old but my dog was running away from her although she was half the size, pffft!
I guess Marley could tell she was in another dog's territory...

So it's the weekend. I hope you all have a good one. I might go out tomorrow night as some of my friends wanna go shake a leg! Sunday, it's footie with my son in the morning and possibly a performance Sunday evening. As soon as it is confirmed etc I will put up details.
